A long standing partner of Conservation Volunteers the California Conservation Corps has been exchanging volunteers with CVA for 19 years. This program offers volunteers the opportunity to participate on projects at many different coastal and wilderness sites in the state of California. In previous years volunteers have been involved in trail maintenance activities at Yosimite National Park which involve camping in secluded areas with minimal facilities, these outdoor camping stays are called ‘spikes’. On other projects participants have been involved in stream restoration to help protect salmon habitat.

 

CVA are offering scholarships to participants on the California program through funding received via the Conservation Volunteer Alliance, if you are interested in applying for a scholarship please complete a scholarship application form available from this site.

Program Dates 2009: 

Team 1: Friday 21st August – Friday 18th September (4 weeks)

Team 2: Friday 18th September – Friday 16th October (4 weeks)

 

California Price and Flight Details:  From $2,700* – the program fee includes volunteer contribution of $500; return international airfares from Melbourne (Team 1) Sydney (Team 2).

 

• Age of participants on the California program must be 18 – 25 years
• Participants must not be aged more than 25 years at the time of travel
• Any increase in airfares imposed by the airline, will be covered by the participant.
• Package includes international airfares from Melbourne/Sydney to San Francisco return, plus international flight taxes
• Package does not include travel insurance, vaccinations, visas, or passport related costs
• Departure travel from Australia must be undertaken on these specific flights – Return flights are at the request of the individual
• Acceptance onto the program is subject to payment being made in full at the time of booking
• The program fee includes $500 contribution to the meals, accommodation and travel costs related to the program
• Program fee also includes one night backpacker accommodation in Melbourne (20th August) or Sydney (17th Sept) prior to date of travel.
